A Brief History Of My Time On The LSI Forum

Preface

I have been a registered member of this forum for 4 years now and I would like to offer this; A Brief History of My Time on the LSI Forum. I have divided my time on the forum into 4 separate eras. I would have written more if my memory was better, but this was all I could remember. Some of it is probably wrong, but this is how I remember my time on the forum. If you have anything to add, discuss, or argue about I would love to hear it all.

Introduction

For 4 years I have been coming to this forum. I’ve loved it, I’ve hated it. I was just a kid when I first joined this forum. Not even 17. To think that in just 7 weeks I will be turning 21 blows my mind away. This post is my confession, my autobiography, and my best(so far) post. If you read only one of my posts on this forum, I hope it will be this one. Let’s start at the very beginning: I’m looking for lyrics, I find the forum, I register and I think to myself, “this forum only has 1200 members right now”. I had been surfing the internet for a few years at this point and I had never joined a forum before. I would see a forum and it would have 10s of thousands of members and millions of posts and I would be too intimidated to join and post. So I would just read them and try to keep up to date. So when I happened upon this forum I saw an opportunity, this forum was just starting out, and I figured I should try and get in while the getting was good.

The Beginning Era

I registered July 25th 2002 and I began posting away. Slowly at first, not knowing too many people and not really know how to conduct myself in a forum. It continued on like this for a bit. Then I decided to up the ante a bit. A made a thread and posted 740 times in it with nothing but the letter h. I was so naïve I didn’t think anyone would notice or care that much. I just wanted to have the largest post count. Their was no hall of fame at this time but their were very few people with 1000+ posts. It was after this incident that my forum life started to take shape. I knew who all the regulars were. For the most part we just goofed around on the forum posting whatever came to our minds. I still remember a lot of these early people. Some are still here and posting, a lot are not. Their was Aimee(XxX) she was my first really good friend here. I haven’t talked to her in probably 2 years. At the same time I knew a lot of other people on the forum well enough to call friends. Rachel(ILoveMarkMiser4)(ILMM), we posted together a lot in the same threads and joked around a lot. I haven’t talked to her in probably 2 and a half years. Others from this era include: Pandora, Dekar, FireWaterBurn, Plantagenet, Merlin, Zenmaster, Babylamb, Egg/egginator, Masterfully Ally, thehappylion, Kasper, Vandy, Jez, and countless others that have since disappeared out of the forum. Perhaps the most important thing that happened was Randomness is the answer was created. That was the era I refer to as the beginning. It was a time when I was just starting out and getting comfortable on the forum. I got to know the ins and outs of the forum, and the people on it, very well. During this era, my life outside the forum was pretty normal, nothing that really affected me. I’m not sure when this era ended and the next one began, they kind of melded into each other, no real definitive point in time.

The MSN Era

The next era is what I am going to call the MSN Era of my time on the forum. The forum was growing quite a bit by this point. A new trend had also started amongst the most popular members; we all added each other to msn messenger. Talking to people from the forum outside of the forum was strange in the beginning. But the more you did it, the better the forum got because you had a real connection with these people outside of the forum. This is the era that really solidified my position in the forum. During this era I made a ton of friends. Dekar(matt), Cheater138(sarah), Singingsweetie(mariah), CrazyDaziBaby(jess), and Aflack06(Ash Lee). These five people were just crazy. We all talked almost everyday in those multiple person conversations that at first were so hard to keep up with. It was somewhere around this time that I think my forum life peaked. Outside of the forum I was in my last year of high school. I think I focused more on my forum life then I did on my life outside of the forum. It all made sense at the time, but now as I look back on it I cant help but think how different things would be if I had of changed my priorities. Anyways, back to the forum life. This era also included people such as: Carole, Gabe(WhatItIsToBurn)(Gabe M)(htd1), Jamie, Matt(ElMonoLoco), Car Lee(animal2), Jew Lee(XxNirvanaxX), Cassie, Roxy(Cheech), Liz, Renata, and even more people that I cant remember. With all the great friends this era brought me it also brought some conflicts. Jamie vs. Jordan is the biggest conflict I can ever remember this forum having. I can’t even remember what their original nicknames were, and since then they have both created new names countless times. I don’t even remember what the fight was about, I don’t think anyone really does, but it was a big thing for the forum to go through. It was sometime after this conflict that moderators were introduced to the forum. The original mods were: baaigones, Carole, Dekar, El_Mono_Loco, Pandora, Plantagenet, and myself. Being one of the original mods was just crazy. It was a hectic time in the forum, a lot was going on. It was a full time job, that’s for sure. The carding system hadn’t been introduced yet though, so it was still relatively easy to be a mod. Other important things that happened in this era were the hall of fame, song discussions, and the member pages. Once the carding system came about their was a change in the forum, I can’t quite explain it, but something was different from then on. During this era my life outside the forum changed a lot. My parents were growing apart. My mom had started drinking heavily and was in and out of detox and rehab programs for more then a year. I guess I used the forum as a way to escape some of the stuff that was happening. For me, this era ended sometime in the fall of 2004.

The Intermission Era

It was my first year of college and I was simply too busy with too many new things to pay as much attention to the forum as I used to. During my first year of college I ignored the forum for the most part, I mean, I was still here just about everyday, but I wasn’t here like I used to be, I wasn’t posting nearly as much, I wasn’t doing very much modding, and I rarely carded anyone. After I left home for college my parents got separated. Also during my first year of college my grandfather died. By the end of my first year my life had changed a lot since I started out on this forum. I guess I felt like I just didn’t fit in here anymore, I had grown apart from all the friends I made in the msn era. I stopped posting almost entirely. The only posts I made were in the randomness threads. This era lasted from fall 2004 to summer 2006. I don’t know very much about what happened on the forum during this time. People came and people went I suppose, but I found myself not caring as much anymore. I was trying to get my life in order and figure out what I wanted to do.

The New Layout Era

This era started in early July of 2006. The whole site underwent a massive redesign, and I saw this as an opportunity to make a comeback of sorts. Since the new layout was introduced I have started posting more, modding more, and reviewing artists and lyrics more. It has been a recommitment of sorts for me. With the new layout comes several new features on the forum and the site in general. Many of them haven’t even been enabled yet. These new features include: member weblogs, member pictures, album discussions, and artist discussions. The new layout has taken a little getting used to but I think in the end it will be for the better. I’m not sure how long this era is going to last for, it could end when I go back to school in the fall, it could go on for a couple years.

Conclusion

Whoa, I must be some kind of loser to want to write 1500 words about a forum right? Well that’s fine with me, I take pride in what I have accomplished on this forum over the four years I have been a member here. This was actually a fun thing to do to kill a couple hours of time on a Saturday morning. It was fun to look back on all the friends I have made. This is definitely the most personal thing I have ever posted here. But I just thought it was something I had to do before I forgot about all the good times I’ve had on the forum since I joined. The only thing I know for sure is that I plan on keeping my promise to never leave this forum. I might go away for a month, or not post for a couple of weeks, but I never plan on leaving.

Thanks for reading

hehe, we were crazy huh? I guess we kinda were... I remember Mariah and Julie with all those little songs they'd make about everyone, haha. MSN convos have really changed since then.

Anyway... congrats on four years and welcome back.. in a way.

Holy crap that was long but I read every word of it.
I see you around a lot.
Never talked to you yet though since by your post there you left just a few months after I first joined so there wasn't much time there to start a conversation.

But Welcome Back!
Hope to see you around the forum more!

I take pride in what I have accomplished on this forum

I always felt bad because I spent a lot of time around here, I always thought I was contributing too much, but I also am proud of myself, even if it's just a site, I've helped people out and contributed beyond my share.
